The Ask
Provide film, technical and world building support for the first iteration of the Metaverse Culture Series, titled Black Future. Partner with emerging artist Gabe Gault to create a first-of-its-kind experience exploring his interpretation of Afrofuturism and Black history. This would be followed by a VR roundtable discussion. Participants included our very own Ime Archibong, actor Jay Ellis (Insecure), director & producer Paris McCoy and more.
The Challenge

This was a complex project involving a lot of coordination and moving parts. The first challenge was conceptualizing + building the "I Am a Man" VR environment in partnership with Gabe Gault (I cover my part in that project here). Next, we interviewed several emerging black VR artists and creators in Horizon Worlds. Lastly, we brought everyone together to a roundtable discussion in Horizon Workrooms. I coordinated filmed and directed all the shoots, including the final roundtable discussion. I also provided technical support for those new to Workrooms or Worlds, getting them comfortable with the technology ahead of the shoot.
The Impact
Forbes broke the exclusive on launch day with an inspiring interview with Jay Ellis who found "inspiration beyond his wildest dreams" as part of the inaugural Black Future experience. Additional coverage rolled out across targeted culture and lifestyle press and social channels over the coming weeks, including a broadcast segment on Black News Network.
