The Ask
Capture footage of Boz and Mark having a friendly game in Echo VR, to be used during Mark's keynote reveal of the Oculus Quest 2.
The Challenge
Echo VR is a competitive VR experience with zero gravity, making it especially challenging to capture steady footage. Additionally, many VR experiences have numerous visual elements that can't simply be turned off for the sake of filming. It takes a considerable amount of time to become competent at maneuvering and playing the game. I partnered with the developers of Echo VR to develop capture tools (for Rift S) specific to our needs. They graciously volunteered their time as extras, which made for very compelling footage. I served as the producer, cameraman, game choreographer, and film director on the day of the shoot.
The Impact
Oculus Quest 2 dominated the headlines as one of the top news announcements at Facebook Connect. We saw 386 total pieces of coverage globally including 79 product reviews, 272 news articles and 35 broadcast segments about Quest 2, covering the spectrum of tech, gaming, business and consumer press. The average review score was 93/100 - a massive success.
