The Ask
Capture footage of Mark and world-renowned climber Alex Honnold together in VR having a friendly chat, demonstrating Co-Presence, as part of the Horizon Home announcement on June 10.
The Challenge
Before the announcement, co-presence was still very much in beta. It was incredibly glitchy and would only work intermittently. With very limited time before filming, we worked with the product team closely to troubleshoot the most egregious bugs ahead of time. This involved flashing our Quest 2s with many different OS builds before landing on something stable enough to where we were confident in the performance. Leaving nothing to chance, the shoot was carefully choreographed. This project was an immense lift, involving a large team of XFN's and creative camera techniques to bring it together. My involvement included video capture, video editing, technical support and directing.
The Impact
Mark shared the final video to his Facebook page, racking up 12k comments, nearly 5k shares and 73k reactions. The announcement was widely covered on tech news sites, including Upload VR, Road to VR, TechCrunch, Engadget and The Verge.
