The Ask
To amplify the announcement of Horizon Worlds going from private beta to public release, the Reality Labs and Horizon marketing teams landed a great sponsorship opportunity with Twitch for their 2021 Chat’s Choice Awards. We needed to show off Horizon Worlds in a new and exciting way for viewers who may not be familiar with the platform. And how could we make it work as part of a live broadcast?
The Challenge
We had the show’s hosts, streamers BruceGreene and Cupahnoodle, present their nomination segment directly from Horizon on a stage built within Worlds. Working with Horizon and Twitch teams, a script and shot list was developed to bridge the talent going from live action to VR and back. This production was a huge technical collaboration across the Horizon and Creative Dept. teams. The stage itself went through multiple iterations for design and to ensure performance. The filming was run by me and my team, capturing multiple angles with an array of virtual cameras controlled remotely via Rift and Quest 2 setups.
The Impact
Streamed live on /twitchgaming, the December 10 broadcast received 1,194,324 viewers during the event, raising awareness for what's possible in Horizon Worlds for existing Quest 2 owners and technical creators.
